If you find yourself looking for a place with some great vibes, then look no further than Kay Rico Coffee in Hollywood. 

Established in 2014 by the husband and wife team of JR Mendez, a retired airline employee, and Elizabeth (Kay Rico) Mendez out of their love of and for all thing’s coffee.  Elizabeth’s parents were from Puerto Rico, where they worked as coffee farmers, before selling the farm to relatives and moving to the US.  Elizabeth and JR got a chance to visit the old family farm that was now owned by other family members and had the chance to return to the states with some green coffee beans in hand.

Having bought JR a small at-home coffee roaster for Christmas one year, Elizabeth decided to roast some of the green coffee beans.  The coffee that was created was in one word—amazing!  With both JR and Elizabeth being big fans of the Farmer’s Markets, they came up with the perfect plan to offer their freshly roasted coffee at several Farmer’s Markets in and around south Florida.  They ended up settling in at Hollywood’s Yellow Green Farmer’s Market, in Booth 123.  As such, they have been serving up not only coffee but hours of lively conversation for over a year since.

Having established their brand by way of their Farmer’s Market booth, Kay Rico Coffee recently opened its official storefront, located on Hollywood Blvd.  They bill themselves as micro-roasters, and as already mentioned, got their initial start in the Yellow Green Farmers’ Market.  Kay Rico Coffee’s mission is simple—to be able to offer both direct trade and fair trade coffee whenever at all possible.  They also strive to source their base product locally, when they are at all able to.

Kay Rico Coffee offers a somewhat impressive variety of coffee-based drinks, including Espressos, Lattes, Cappuccinos, Cuban Coffee, Iced Coffee, as well as Bulletproof drinks.  They even have matcha and chai tea choices on their menu.  

When visiting Kay Rico Coffee, there is more to do than just partaking in a cuppa.  They have a rather unique social atmosphere, as well.  With such engaging social activities as Open Mic Night, Game Night, and Movie Night, there is sure to be something that will more than catch your fancy.  With each theme, there are extra incentives, as well.

Open Mic Night features not only Kay Rico coffees but also delicious food options (vegan included), as well as a selection of craft beer or wine.  Game Night features fresh coffee, delicious food, craft beer, and wine, as well as excellent choices of house cocktails.  Movie Night offers coffee, food, beer, and wine.
